What Does a Director Human Resources Do?
The Director of HR is tasked with overseeing the comprehensive functions of the Human Resources department, ensuring that operations run efficiently and align with the organization’s goals and objectives.
In this role, the Director of HR supervises employee recruitment, training, retention, and development, while ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory requirements. They are also responsible for creating and enforcing HR policies, managing employee benefits and compensation strategies, and advising senior leadership on HR strategies and workforce planning.
Director of Human Resources Responsibilities
- Partner with the executive team to formulate HR policies and strategies that align with the company’s mission, vision, and core principles.
- Oversee the design and implementation of compensation plans to enhance employee satisfaction and retention while achieving company financial targets.
- Create and deliver engaging Learning & Development initiatives to advance employee skills and career progression.
- Manage employee relations, improving conflict resolution methods and performance management systems.
- Supervise HRIS operations to ensure adherence to relevant rules and regulations.
- Direct the administration of employee benefits, including selecting vendors and managing relationships.
- Lead the HR department, cultivating a cooperative and inclusive work culture.
- Oversee the processes for recruiting and acquiring talent.
- Keep up-to-date with changes in legislation and regulations that impact both the HR department and the organization as a whole.
Director of HR Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Human Resources or a similar field, or equivalent education and experience.
- Proven leadership abilities with effective communication skills across all employee levels and backgrounds.
- A minimum of 10 years of advanced leadership experience within an HR team.
- At least three years of experience in a director-level HR role.
- Extensive expertise in all aspects of HR.
- SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification (or a comparable credential) required.
- Proficient in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
