What Does an HR Supervisor Do?

An HR Supervisor directs the Human Resources division within a company. Their responsibilities include supervising the team in areas such as talent acquisition, recruitment, and the integration of new hires, as well as managing employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, training programs, HR strategy, and data management.

In their multifaceted role, an HR Supervisor acts as a bridge and consultant to executive management, the HR department, and staff members.

HR Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Support managers with staffing needs and strategic workforce planning.
  • Advise employees and managers on HR policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Carry out final interviews and supervise the process of reference and background verifications.
  • Manage the processes for integrating new employees and exiting departing staff.
  • Handle employee relations issues and programs, encompassing performance evaluations and investigations.
  • Drive employee development programs, including organizing training sessions and workshops.
  • Supervise benefits management, including selecting vendors and managing vendor relationships.

HR Supervisor Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in HR, with a track record of advancing leadership roles.
  • Extensive understanding of HR systems and methodologies, including relevant state and federal employment legislation and regulations.
  • Pertinent HR certifications such as SPHR or SHRM-SCP.
  • Exceptional leadership abilities and proficiency in delivering presentations to diverse audiences across all organizational levels.
